The second Shyntor Festival will be held from December 10 to 12 at Shyntorbulia village in Meghalaya’s Ri-Bhoi district. Organisers announced that the three-day event intends to spotlight the village’s development issues while showcasing its cultural heritage and natural beauty.
Shyntorbulia, located about 30 km from the district center Nongpoh, is home to around 63 households and 400 people. It is situated where the Umsha and Umsiang rivers meet, near a waterfall, which presents tourism potential. However, the village faces basic infrastructure challenges, including poor roads and unsafe river crossings during monsoon.
The festival programme includes music and dance performances by local Khasi, Garo, and Jaintia communities, live acts from local and international artists, DJ nights, a football tournament, and an art and craft market. Visitors will also enjoy regional cuisine and traditional weaving displays. The event is organised by the Rongjeng Welfare Foundation and the Dorbar Shnong of Shyntorbulia, with support from district administration and India Tourism. The festival aims to maintain continuous government focus on improving roads, education facilities, and drinking water supply.
