Six policemen, including two sub-inspectors, were suspended after the death of 28-year-old pregnant woman Anjali in Firozabad’s Shikohabad area. Her family claimed she was kicked in the abdomen by a police officer during a late-night raid to arrest her husband, Gaurav, in a theft case. Anjali later gave birth to a boy, who was referred to Agra in critical condition, but her health worsened and she was declared dead at a private hospital in Firozabad.
Superintendent of Police Aditya Langhe suspended Sub-Inspectors Dharmpal Singh and Satyapal Singh, Head Constables Mohan Singh and Arvind Kumar, and Constables Bhavtosh Kumar and Kuldeep Kumar for negligence. The woman’s post-mortem and last rites were conducted on Monday night under heavy police deployment.
The incident sparked public and political outrage. Samajwadi Party national general secretary Ramjilal Suman and party workers staged a sit-in at the Shikohabad police station, demanding a murder case against the policemen involved. An SP delegation met Anjali’s family seeking accountability, while police officials requested three days to respond to the demand.
