Nepal’s flash floods have resulted in 1,399 deaths, with bodies recovered from eight affected districts, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority reported.
The floods were triggered by an ice-rock avalanche near the Nepal–Tibet border on August 26, 2026, causing widespread destruction across northern and central Nepal.
Chitwan district reported the highest number of recovered bodies at 364, followed by Nawalparasi East (232), Nawalparasi West (222), Nuwakot (202), Rasuwa (189), Gorkha (78), Dhading (72), and Tanahun (38). Additionally, two victims died while receiving treatment in Kathmandu.
A joint command of security personnel continues large-scale search and rescue operations, with approximately 5,170 people still missing. So far, 13,742 people have been rescued as authorities intensify efforts to locate missing individuals, recover bodies, and provide assistance to affected communities.
