Southern Railway has released a recruitment notification (01/2026) inviting online applications for 4,471 Act Apprentice training slots across various divisions, workshops, and units.
Note: This engagement is strictly for apprenticeship training and does not guarantee regular employment upon completion.

- Total Vacancies: 4,471 slots (163 for Freshers, 4,308 for Ex-ITI candidates)

- Fee Exemptions: SC, ST, PwBD, and Women candidates do not need to pay the application fee.

Monthly Stipend
Selected candidates will receive a fixed monthly stipend based on their qualification and entry stream:
- Fresher (Class 10): ₹8,200 per month
- Fresher (Class 12): ₹9,600 per month
- Ex-ITI Candidates: ₹9,600 per month
Training Duration
- Freshers:
- Welder & Medical Laboratory Technician: 1 year 3 months
- Fitter & Painter: 2 years
- Ex-ITI Candidates: Training duration rebates are applied according to standard Apprenticeship Rules.
Selection Process
Selection is conducted purely on a merit basis with no written examination:
- For Freshers: Merit is calculated by scaling Class 10/Matriculation marks to a total out of 200.
- For Ex-ITI Candidates: Equal weightage is assigned to Matriculation and ITI marks (each scaled out of 100).
