US President Donald Trump suggested replacing the term "artificial intelligence" with "Super Intelligence", arguing that "artificial" makes the technology sound "fake."
Speaking at the United Nations General Assembly, Trump described AI as an "amazing" technology and said his administration would support growth in the AI and data-centre industries rather than impede it.
He also criticised warnings about AI risks, calling them a "globalist scheme" and comparing them to contested climate change debates. Trump acknowledged that advanced AI may bring challenges but rejected claims that it would inevitably cause catastrophic outcomes. He proposed creating an "AI Force" and appointing an AI czar to oversee AI regulation.
His remarks came amid international calls for stronger AI safeguards, with leaders from more than 20 countries urging binding safety measures. Despite Trump’s comments on renaming the technology, no formal US government-wide rebranding of "artificial intelligence" as "Super Intelligence" has been announced.
