UKPNP chairman Sardar Shaukat Ali Kashmiri has urged the UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC) to urgently address the deteriorating human rights situation in Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK) and Pakistan-occupied Gilgit-Baltistan (PoGB).
Speaking during the 63rd UNHRC session under Agenda Item 4, he claimed repression in PoJK has intensified since June 5, 2026, citing reports of arrests, violence, deaths, injuries, alleged disappearances, and restrictions on internet and mobile communications.
Kashmiri called for an immediate, independent and impartial investigation into these violations, urging Pakistan to stop using force against peaceful protesters and to release those described as arbitrarily detained and political prisoners. He also requested independent UN monitoring mechanisms, clarification on the whereabouts of missing persons, and restoration of unrestricted communications.
Regarding PoGB, he raised concerns over political representation, land rights, and control over natural resources, advocating for democratic dialogue and greater transparency in development projects, including consultation with local communities.
His appeal emphasizes the need for increased international scrutiny and accountability concerning human rights and governance issues in these Pakistan-administered regions.
