The Union Government announced on September 16, 2026, that legendary actor Anant Nag will be honored with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award for 2024, recognizing his five-decade contribution to Indian cinema. Famous for his iconic roles in classic films like Ankur, Nishant, Manthan, and the television adaptation Malgudi Days, the 78-year-old actor has appeared in more than 300 films, predominantly in Kannada cinema. Nag will receive the award on September 22 at the 72nd National Film Awards ceremony in Kevadia, Gujarat. Following the announcement, Prime Minister Narendra Modi lauded the actor’s versatility, natural acting style, and deep contributions to Indian screen arts.
