Union Oil Minister Hardeep Singh Puri stated that the West Asia crisis remains unresolved and carries a substantial risk of escalation. He highlighted the ongoing geopolitical risks affecting global energy markets during the Public Affairs Forum of India’s annual conclave.
Puri emphasized the need for continued vigilance, noting that West Asia is vital to worldwide oil supplies. Despite the challenges, he identified a potential benefit in the ample availability of crude oil in the global market, which may mitigate the effects of supply disruptions or further escalation in the region.
Additionally, Puri mentioned that foreign investors have expressed interest in India’s refining sector. However, he clarified that India currently does not require such investments due to the sufficiency and capacity of its existing refinery infrastructure.
These remarks underscore India’s commitment to energy security and preparedness amid geopolitical uncertainties, relying on its current refining capabilities and the availability of crude oil internationally to manage external pressures.
