On Tuesday, students in 75 government schools across Bihar’s Arwal district found worms in their mid-day meals, raising concerns about food safety in schools. The meal, provided by Royal Manav Mitra Seva Samiti, included rice and a soybean-potato curry. Students reported worms in the curry, with some also found in the rice. After noticing the contamination, students informed their teachers, refused to eat, and discarded the food in school dustbins. Videos show students pointing out the worms and throwing away their meals.
The incident has caused a stir in Bihar’s education department and questioned the quality and handling of mid-day meals in government schools. Arwal Education Officer Asgar Hussain ordered an immediate investigation. He stated that strict action would be taken against the supplier if negligence is found and emphasized that there would be no compromise regarding the health of children.
