The Union Cabinet approved a ₹10,000 crore commitment to establish the SME Growth Fund (SGF), an Alternative Investment Fund (AIF) aimed at providing growth-stage equity support to promising small and medium enterprises (SMEs). Announced as part of the Union Budget 2026–27 framework, the fund addresses a critical gap in long-term risk capital required by scaling businesses.
Designed to foster "Champion Indian Enterprises," the initiative prioritizes small and medium manufacturing units and enterprises operating in industrial clusters across Tier-II and Tier-III cities. The capital injection will enable SMEs to expand manufacturing capacity, adopt advanced technologies, enter global value chains, and generate high-quality employment, advancing national goals toward regional industrial development and export competitiveness.
