A woman and her daughter, employed as domestic help at industrialist J. Sekar Reddy's residence in Katpadi, Vellore, were arrested for an alleged theft involving a large quantity of gold ornaments and cash. The accused are K. Rani, 52, and her daughter K. Mahalakshmi, 37, who had been working at Mr. Reddy’s home for several years and were familiar with the valuables there.
According to police, the theft began when the women stole some gold ornaments and later provided information about the valuables to a four-member gang. Acting on this information, the gang entered the residence and stole approximately five kilograms of gold and ₹45 lakh in cash in a recent incident.
Police investigations led to the identification and arrest of Rani and Mahalakshmi. Both were produced before authorities and remanded to Vellore Central Prison. The police continue to investigate the role of the gang and the whereabouts of the stolen items. The case remains under investigation to establish the full sequence of events and identify all involved.
