Activist Sonam Wangchuk has requested to temporarily leave Safdarjung Hospital-where he claims he is under illegal detention-to join a "Sansad Chalo" (march to Parliament) in Delhi.
Wangchuk was taken to the hospital against his will on the 21st day of his hunger strike. He states his health is fine and that his strike will continue until the government takes responsibility for recent competitive exam paper leaks and education system failures, or until political leaders promise to raise the issue in Parliament.
Meanwhile, Delhi Police have denied permission for the march to maintain law and order, leading to clashes, tear gas, and heightened security near Parliament as the monsoon session begins.
