Anurag Dhankar, the Director General of Police (DGP) for Tripura, was found dead in his office at the state police headquarters in Agartala on Monday, July 20, 2026.
Following the discovery, Chief Minister Manik Saha and other top officials visited the hospital. The precise cause of death is not yet known, and an investigation into the circumstances is currently underway.
Dhankar, a highly decorated 1994-batch IPS officer with over 30 years of service, had previously served in major roles within the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), the United Nations Mission in Kosovo, and headed the SIT probing the 1984 anti-Sikh riots, before taking over as Tripura's DGP in May 2025.
