Despite a sharp decline in AI token prices, global enterprises are increasing their AI spending as usage expands beyond simple experiments and chatbots to more complex, multi-step applications. Coforge management reported that over the past seven months, the unit cost of tokens needed to deliver the same level of AI intelligence dropped about 100-fold, while token consumption grew approximately 8,000-fold.
The reduction in AI costs is encouraging broader deployment across various business functions. However, advanced AI workloads demand more model interactions, computational power, data processing, and infrastructure. Consequently, the steep decrease in cost per token is offset by the significantly larger scale, volume, and complexity of AI use.
This trend indicates that lower AI prices do not necessarily lead to reduced overall enterprise spending. As AI becomes more affordable, companies are adopting it more extensively and for increasingly sophisticated applications, maintaining substantial investments in AI infrastructure and technology.
