The 'Ankurita Asom' initiative was officially launched on Wednesday (22 July), with the goal of conserving Assam's indigenous rice varieties. It aims to promote sustainable agricultural practices, support farmers, and add value to traditional paddy varieties, preserving Assam's rich agricultural heritage by strengthening farmer capacities and encouraging market-based value addition to local rice types.

The programme was attended by Ankurita Asom President Naser Hussain, Assistant Secretary Nilufa Rahman, along with the participation of local farmers, villagers and other stakeholders. Followed by a ceremonial paddy seed plantation marking its formal launch, with participant pledging collective efforts to ensure the success of the initiative.

Agricultural expert and Technical Advisor Dr. Arunima Deb Chowdhury emphasized that conserving local rice varieties is essential for driving sustainable agricultural growth in Assam.
