Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei has called on leading AI companies to slow the pace of frontier AI development. He advocates for stronger safety measures, independent evaluations, and increased coordination among governments as AI models grow more capable. His proposal, titled “We Must Pace the Frontier,” emphasizes third-party oversight and shared safety standards but does not suggest halting AI training or reducing infrastructure spending.
Importantly, Amodei clarified that the proposal does not call for buying fewer Nvidia chips. Instead, he stressed that pacing AI progress means allowing companies sufficient time to align and safeguard their models rather than stopping technological advances.
This distinction is significant for Nvidia. The company reported $96.2 billion in fiscal Q2 2027 revenue, with data-center revenue reaching $89.0 billion, up 117% year over year. Net income increased 126% to $59.7 billion, and management forecasts about $108.0 billion in fiscal Q3 revenue.
Though Nvidia shares fell approximately 5% the previous week amid broader AI concerns, Anthropic’s call for a measured approach focuses on responsible AI development, safety, and oversight. The proposal does not imply a reduction in demand for Nvidia hardware powering AI systems.
