As floodwaters hit various districts across Assam, communities are now battling a new wave of crises: unsanitary living conditions, snake infestations, and the looming fear of disease outbreaks. Dergaon has emerged as one of the most severely impacted areas, where floods previously affected over 10,000 people and displaced around 25,000 livestock.
In several flood-affected villages in the Kakodonga area of Dergaon, residents are struggling with deteriorating living conditions. Unhygienic water, heaps of waste, and swarms of flies pose severe health risks. The situation is further aggravated by an increasing presence of venomous snakes and other dangerous creatures, leaving families living in constant fear.
However, local residents allege that despite these worsening conditions, the health department has failed to respond with the necessary urgency, leaving them without essential medicines or sanitation measures.
