Ram Vyas Verma, a 70-year-old former sarpanch and local Samajwadi Party leader, was beaten to death on Friday (July 24, 2026), with a blunt object while sleeping at a tube well pump station near his home in Udaha village under the Sahatwar police station limits in Ballia, Uttar Pradesh.

Police have registered a First Information Report (FIR) against unidentified individuals following a complaint filed by his son, Ajay Kumar Verma, while Samajwadi Party national secretary Ram Govind Chaudhary has demanded the immediate arrest of those responsible for the killing.
