A devastating avalanche on Pakistan’s Broad Peak (8,051 meters) has claimed the lives of 10 mountaineers, marking one of the deadliest accidents in recent high-altitude climbing history.
Among the deceased is world-renowned climber Nirmal "Nims Dai" Purja, 43, who was leading an international team organized by his expedition company, Elite Exped. The group comprised six Nepalese climbers, alongside citizens from the United States, Oman, China, and Pakistan.
The avalanche struck at approximately 7,000 meters altitude on Thursday, July 30, as the team was advancing toward the summit. GPS tracking devices recorded a sudden drop in altitude before all communications were abruptly lost.
