New Delhi: Police fired tear gas shells and used baton charges on Monday to disperse supporters of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) after thousands attempted to march from Jantar Mantar towards Parliament during the opening day of the Monsoon Session.
Authorities had imposed restrictions around the Parliament complex, deploying the Rapid Action Force (RAF), riot-control units and additional police personnel to prevent protesters from entering the high-security zone. Demonstrators demanded the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over alleged examination irregularities and called for reforms to the country's examination system.
The protest also highlighted demands for the release of activist Sonam Wangchuk and compensation for families of students allegedly affected by examination paper leaks. Meanwhile, the government initiated talks with a CJP delegation, with Union Minister J.P. Nadda assuring that the group's demands would be discussed, though no commitments were announced.
