New Delhi: Proceedings in both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha witnessed repeated disruptions on Monday as Opposition parties raised the issue of alleged examination irregularities and demanded a discussion on the ongoing protests seeking the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
The Lok Sabha was adjourned seven times, while the Rajya Sabha witnessed six adjournments, limiting legislative business on the opening day of the Monsoon Session. Amid the disruptions, only a Bill proposing an increase in the sanctioned strength of Supreme Court judges was introduced in the Lok Sabha.
Before the session commenced, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed hope for a constructive Parliament, highlighting the achievements of India's youth and calling for a productive discussion where every viewpoint would be respected.
Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge accused the government of suppressing student protests and urged a discussion on the issue inside Parliament.
