The DMK organized state-wide protests across Tamil Nadu on Saturday, condemning Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay’s remarks against former Chief Minister and DMK president M.K. Stalin made during Monday’s Assembly debate on the Police Department’s Demand for Grants. Vijay referred to Stalin’s arrest under MISA, prompting DMK cadres to demand the expunging of these comments from Assembly records.
In Chennai, protests took place at two locations. Former Union Minister A. Raja spoke at Saidapet, led by south district secretary Ma. Subramanian, sharply criticizing Vijay’s remarks. Meanwhile, another demonstration near the Collectorate was led by organising secretary R.S. Bharathi, with Chennai Mayor R. Priya and others participating. Some of Raja’s comments about a Minister drew criticism on social media and were condemned by Tamil Nadu Congress Committee president B. Manickam Tagore.
Demonstrations were also held in Tiruchi, Salem, Erode, and Karur districts.
