India’s senior living market is expected to become a $10.1 billion opportunity by 2030, according to the ASLI-JLL report “India’s Silver Economy: From Niche to Necessity.” The policy-driven scenario estimates that $7.7 billion in capital investment will be required to meet new supply demands.
The market of financially independent urban senior households is projected to grow from 1.7 million in 2026 to 2.1 million by 2030, indicating rising demand for senior housing and care solutions. India currently has over 166 million people aged above 60, and this number is expected to double by 2050. Despite this, organised senior living accounts for just 1.5% penetration.
The report highlights a significant unmet need for specialised housing and care facilities as longevity and financial independence among seniors increase. ASLI chairman G. Rajagopal noted the opportunity lies in developing a strong, accessible and trusted senior-care ecosystem to support India’s growing elderly population.
