Neymar’s 16-year international career came to a poignant and dramatic close at MetLife Stadium—the exact venue where he made his senior debut for Brazil back in 2010.

Following a stunning 2-1 upset by Norway in the 2026 World Cup Round of 16, the emotional 34-year-old superstar confirmed his retirement from the national team.

Despite scoring a late penalty to give his side hope, Neymar was unable to prevent the shocking elimination, bringing an end to Brazil's pursuit of a sixth world title.

In a post-match interview with geTV, he said, "I tried, I tried. Now it’s over. I started here, I closed it here."
