FIFA’s refereeing chief, Pierluigi Collina, rejected Egypt's claims of referee bias during their 3-2 World Cup loss to Argentina.
Following their elimination, Egypt filed a complaint over two key decisions: a disallowed second-half goal by Mostafa Zico and an alleged missed foul on Mohamed Salah before Argentina scored the winner.
Collina defended the officials, stating that match decisions are completely independent of outside influence. He explained that VAR correctly disallowed Egypt's goal due to a prior foul on an Argentine defender, and that the challenge on Salah was normal football contact rather than a penalty.
Collina emphasized that FIFA is fully satisfied with the VAR handling and condemned the baseless attacks on the officials' integrity, warning that such allegations put referees and their families at risk.
