On Wednesday, fresh floods expanded Assam's flood crisis, affecting parts of the Darrang, Nagaon, and Biswanath districts after rising river levels and an embankment breach inundated several villages.
In Darrang, a breach in the Noa River embankment at Bengabara village under Outola Panchayat flooded nearby areas, affecting over 100 families. Residents warned that other weakened embankments could also give way if water levels continue to rise.
In Nagaon, the swollen Diju River flooded villages under the Samaguri Revenue Circle, submerging homes and large stretches of farmland. Several families from the Diju Valley Tea Estate were forced to take shelter in a nearby school after floodwaters entered their homes.
Meanwhile, the rising Dikrai River flooded villages in Biswanath district, forcing residents to move to higher ground with their livestock. Officials have intensified monitoring and relief efforts, while affected residents have sought immediate supplies of food, drinking water, cattle feed, and medical assistance. No casualties have been reported so far.
