Following severe floods in Gujarat, authorities set up 6,868 medical camps and deployed 18,000 surveillance teams across all 34 districts and 8 municipal corporations. This extensive health response is intended to provide immediate medical care and monitor potential disease outbreaks in flood-affected areas.
The Health Department is conducting regular health check-ups at the flood relief camps. As a precaution, 675 pregnant women from vulnerable areas were shifted to healthcare facilities, where 272 institutional deliveries were safely conducted. Additionally, surveillance teams have been tasked with tracking incidents of waterborne and vector-borne diseases that typically spike after floods.
The administration has deployed 1,496 ambulances under the 108 Emergency service, while 816 ambulances at Primary and Community Health Centres (PHCs and CHCs) remain on standby. PHCs and CHCs are also equipped with backup generators and sufficient diesel to ensure uninterrupted healthcare services.
The large-scale operation emphasizes strengthening healthcare access in rural and urban localities impacted by the flooding.
