Indian women's cricket team stalwarts Harmanpreet Kaur announced her resignation from the captaincy across all three formats on Tuesday, bringing an end to a defining decade-long leadership era. The announcement was made via an official social media statement following a review meeting with Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) officials in Guwahati, where Kaur confirmed that while her role as captain concludes, she will remain available as an active player for the national team.
Kaur, who assumed the T20I leadership in 2016 before taking over as all-format captain, leaves a landmark record that includes leading India to its maiden ODI World Cup victory and back-to-back Asian Games gold medals. Reframing her transition, Kaur stated: "I leave the captaincy today with a heart full of emotions, but also with peace, because I genuinely believe my team is in a good place. I feel I have done my duty. Captaincy ends, the journey continues."
