IBM And NASA Unveil Open-Source AI To Map The Moon

IBM and NASA have launched an open-source AI model designed to map the lunar surface and analyze decades of observation data to support future space exploration.

The NASA-IBM Lunar Foundation Model joins the broader Prithvi open-source family and aims to streamline lunar research as plans move forward for a sustained human presence on the Moon.

Key Highlights

1. Extensive Data: Trained on over 30 layers of data from nine instruments across four NASA missions, including the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter.
2. Superior Accuracy: Outperformed existing tools by identifying lunar surface features up to 23% more accurately in benchmark tests.
