India and Canada are expected to finalise the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) by the end of 2026, marking a key step in enhancing economic cooperation between the countries. Canadian High Commissioner to India Christopher Cooter stated that the agreement will create greater opportunities for expanding bilateral trade and investment. The growing engagement is also set to culminate in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Canada in December 2026, planned to deepen bilateral relations and economic ties.
Speaking at The Hindu Mind in New Delhi, Cooter emphasized the significant potential for Indian and Canadian investment in each other's economies. He noted that bilateral investment could potentially scale up to $1 trillion, highlighting the vast scope for future economic collaboration. The CEPA aims to establish a stronger framework for trade and investment cooperation, enhancing business opportunities in both countries. This development reflects ongoing efforts by India and Canada to broaden economic partnerships and strengthen commercial relations.
