PepsiCo has inaugurated its first foods manufacturing facility in Northeast India, located at Danguapara in Assam’s Nalbari district. Situated about 65 km northwest of Guwahati, the plant spans 44.2 acres and is PepsiCo’s fifth foods manufacturing facility in India. This investment aims to strengthen India’s position as one of PepsiCo’s top 10 global anchor markets and expands the company’s food-production capacity to meet growing demand in the country.
A key focus of the plant is its link to agriculture. PepsiCo plans to support approximately 80,000 smallholder farmers through agri-entrepreneurs, who will facilitate connections between farmers and the company, enhancing the agricultural supply chain. Thus, the facility represents more than just an increase in manufacturing capacity; it seeks to deepen PepsiCo’s engagement with local agriculture and rural communities while expanding its manufacturing presence in Assam and the broader Northeast region.
The plant’s location is notable since the Northeast has historically faced geographical challenges and has not been a preferred investment destination. PepsiCo’s presence marks a significant expansion of its manufacturing footprint in this region.
