A man in Karnataka lost ₹7.46 lakh after his minor son shared one-time passwords (OTPs) received on his phone with online gamers. The accused reportedly tricked the child into sharing the OTPs, which were then used to activate an AutoPay facility linked to the victim's bank account. A total of ₹7,46,591 was withdrawn from the account without the father's knowledge.
The incident highlights the risks of sharing sensitive information such as OTPs, especially among minors involved in online gaming communities. Such actions can expose families to significant financial fraud and losses.
Authorities urge the public to exercise caution while sharing personal and banking information, emphasizing the importance of awareness and digital literacy to prevent similar cases. Following the complaint, the Whitefield CEN Police registered an FIR under the Information Technology Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023. Police are investigating the case and attempting to trace the accused.
