India successfully conducted the inaugural test of its indigenously developed Kusha surface-to-air missile system on Thursday, July, 23. The system will substantially boost the nation's air defense capabilities once operationalized.

  • Test Details: Conducted by the DRDO from APJ Abdul Kalam Island (Odisha), successfully intercepting a high-speed, high-altitude electronic target.

  • Target Spectrum: Engineered to destroy drones, fighter jets, missiles, and large aircraft within a 150–350 km range.

  • Indigenous Development: All core components—including radars, missiles, and command units—were built by DRDO labs alongside domestic industry partners.

  • Deployment Timeline: Expected to be operationalized within 3 to 4 years.
