India’s net direct tax collection increased by 13% to more than ₹12.12 lakh crore between April 1 and September 17, 2026, according to data from the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT). This growth was partly driven by stronger advance-tax mop-up during the current fiscal year.

Corporate tax collections rose 19.48% to about ₹5.56 lakh crore, outpacing the overall direct-tax growth. Non-corporate tax collections, which include taxes from individuals and Hindu Undivided Families (HUFs), increased by 6% to over ₹6.16 lakh crore. Tax receipts from financial-market activity also recorded significant growth. Securities Transactions Tax (STT) collections jumped 53% to ₹40,214 crore during April 1–September 17, reflecting higher receipts from securities market transactions.

Alongside the rise in gross tax inflows, the government processed substantially higher refunds.

Refund issuance increased 29.19% to more than ₹2.20 lakh crore during the same period. The simultaneous rise in collections and refunds provides a broader picture of tax administration and taxpayer settlements this fiscal year. Overall, the CBDT figures show a 13% increase in net direct-tax revenue, supported by corporate, individual, and HUF tax receipts, advance-tax payments, and higher securities-related tax collections, while refund issuance also expanded significantly.
