Karnataka is procuring 100 MW of electricity daily from Assam since September 1, 2026, as inadequate rains and rising demand put pressure on power availability across southern India. The transfer is being facilitated through the “One Nation, One Grid, One Frequency” system, enabling electricity to move across regions and helping Karnataka supplement its supply through interstate power exchange. The scale of demand is evident from Karnataka’s consumption, which reached 339.51 MU on September 17, up from 251.48 MU on the same day last year—an increase of about 35%. The Assam-Karnataka arrangement highlights the role of India’s integrated power grid in balancing regional shortages and supporting reliable electricity supply when local availability comes under pressure.
