Vehicular traffic is set to resume on Guwahati's historic Old Saraighat Bridge following the completion of extensive maintenance work. The bridge was officially reopened at 12:30 PM today, September 15, 2026.
Key Details of the Reopening
- Closure Period: The structure had been shut down to all vehicular traffic since July 13 to allow the Northeast Frontier (NF) Railway to carry out vital structural repairs.
- Commuter Relief: Officials initially announced the two-month closure on July 7, directing traffic to alternative routes across the Brahmaputra River.
- Back in Service: With repair work fully completed by the NF Railway, normal traffic flow on the bridge has officially resumed.
