Sivasagar MLA and Raijor Dal president Akhil Gogoi held a meeting on August 20 with senior officials of Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited (ONGC), Assam Asset, at its Nazira headquarters. The meeting addressed urgent assistance for people affected by the devastating Dikhow River floods on July 19.
Gogoi discussed a five-point demand that included allocation of ₹50 crore to improve Sivasagar town's drainage system and the removal of garbage and debris in flood-affected areas across Sivasagar, Nazira, Sonari, and Jorhat districts. Additional demands included supplying iron pipes to rebuild damaged bridges and constructing community halls in affected villages.
ONGC Assam Asset Executive Director Uday Paswan and other officials reportedly assured Gogoi that all demands would be considered for implementation. After the meeting, Gogoi warned that if ONGC failed to honour these flood relief commitments, the corporation would face strong opposition and might have to leave Assam. His statement comes amid growing public calls for corporate support to flood-affected communities in Upper Assam.
