Scientists conducted laboratory experiments using apple pomace, the waste product from apple processing, to remove lead ions from contaminated water. The study showed that both raw and processed apple waste effectively reduced lead concentrations in water samples.
Under optimal experimental setups, extracted apple waste achieved complete or nearly 100% removal of lead from the solution. The biosorbents demonstrated fast adsorption rates, with significant lead uptake occurring within the first hour of contact.
