The Telangana High Court, led by Justice K. Sujana, sentenced Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) A. Krishnaiah of L.B. Nagar, Malkajgiri commissionerate, to one month of imprisonment for contempt of court and imposed a ₹2,000 fine. The case was filed by Katta Vamshi Krishna, who claimed that Krishnaiah arrested him in a dowry-death case despite a specific High Court order protecting him from arrest.
The court held the police officer accountable for violating the judicial directive, emphasizing that disobedience of court orders disrupts the administration of justice and warrants punitive action. This verdict underscores the authority of judicial orders and the obligation of law enforcement officials to comply with them.
However, following a request from Public Prosecutor for Home Palle Nageshwar Rao, the High Court stayed the sentence's operation until October 19, allowing Krishnaiah to appeal the conviction and sentence.
