A 23-year-old man from Uttar Pradesh’s Pilibhit district has been arrested after allegedly tricking his 18-year-old girlfriend into drinking toilet-cleaning acid under the guise of a mutual suicide pact.

The incident occurred in Bhaugapur village under the Bisalpur Kotwali police jurisdiction. Police identified the accused as Banti Kumar, a local farmer, who had reportedly been in a relationship with the victim for nearly two years.

Key Details of the Incident

  1. Pretext of a Pact: After his marriage was arranged with another woman, Kumar allegedly summoned the victim to the outskirts of the village. He convinced her that they should end their lives together and persuaded her to drink the corrosive substance first.
  2. Fled the Scene: As soon as the victim ingested the chemical and urged him to drink it as well, Kumar abandoned her and fled.
  3. Medical Intervention: A passerby discovered the victim writhing in pain and alerted her family. She was initially rushed to the Bisalpur Community Health Centre before being transferred to the Government Medical College Hospital in Pilibhit. Medical authorities have since confirmed that her condition has stabilized.

Police Action

Following a complaint lodged by the victim's father, local law enforcement registered a case under Section 124(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which pertains to causing severe hurt by means of acid or corrosive substances. Police promptly arrested Kumar, and further legal proceedings are currently underway.
