External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar represented India at the inaugural V4+India Foreign Ministers’ summit in New York on September 21, 2026, alongside diplomatic leaders from Poland, Hungary, Slovakia, and Czechia. Convened during the 81st session of the UN General Assembly, the meeting resulted in an explicit endorsement of India’s permanent membership on the UN Security Council. Slovak Foreign Minister Juraj Blanár stated on behalf of the group that India's geopolitical weight in the Indo-Pacific and Global South makes its inclusion on the Security Council essential. Jaishankar characterized the inaugural session as a "new historic occasion," noting that the group also held discussions regarding global crises, including the conflict in Ukraine and instability in the Gulf.

The United Nations Security Council currently maintains five permanent members with veto power (China, France, Russia, the UK, and the US) alongside ten non-permanent members elected for two-year terms. India has previously served eight terms as a non-permanent member and launched its candidacy in July for a non-permanent term in 2028–2029 while continuing to campaign for comprehensive structural reform. The endorsement by the Central European Visegrád bloc adds four EU member nations to India's coalition of global supporters. Beyond multilateral diplomacy, the V4+India agreement establishes structured annual diplomatic and economic forums to scale bilateral trade, defense initiatives, and technology transfers.
