A SBI customer in Mariani, Assam, lost ₹37,000 after falling victim to a clever card-swapping scheme at a local ATM.
The victim—identified as Pradip Barua, a resident of Signal Colony—was withdrawing cash from a State Bank of India (SBI) ATM when an unidentified woman approached him. She deceived him into handing over his ATM card and swapped it with another card without his knowledge.
Key Details of the Incident:
- The Theft: Using Barua’s original card, the woman later withdrew ₹37,000 from another ATM located in the Mariani-Nakachari area.
- Police Action: After realizing money had been taken from his account without authorization, Barua filed an official complaint at the Mariani Police Station.
- Investigation Status: The entire card-swapping incident was caught on the ATM’s CCTV cameras. While authorities are analyzing the footage to identify the suspect and track the unauthorized transactions, no arrests have been made yet.
