In Bamunpukhuri Tea Estate, Sivasagar district, Assam, a boy named Hridip tragically lost his life on July 19 after being swept away by strong floodwaters while attempting to carry his three-month-old dog, Varun, to safety. Although his family attempted a rescue when he slipped into the swift current, they were unable to save him, though the dog survived.

Following the tragedy, Hridip's parents urged other families to keep their children close during deluges and called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and government authorities to ensure rescue boats and teams are readily available in flood-prone villages.

Recent flooding across eastern Assam has claimed at least 78 lives and displaced thousands of residents.
