Assam witnessed severe floods that claimed 21 lives on July 21, according to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA). The district-wise death toll includes Sivasagar (13), Charaideo (5), Jorhat (1), and Golaghat (2).
After a brief improvement in conditions, heavy rainfall once again worsened the flood situation, affecting approximately 565,000 people across 16 districts. With the latest fatalities, the cumulative death toll in the region has now risen to 31.
The situation remains critical as incessant rainfall continues to affect large parts of Assam, exacerbating displacement and infrastructure damage. Several areas remain inundated, disrupting normal life and affecting transportation and essential services.
Authorities are closely monitoring the situation and have intensified rescue and relief operations, while urging residents in vulnerable areas to remain alert as heavy rainfall is expected to continue.
