The Forward Seaman Union of India (FSUI) has issued an urgent appeal to the Indian government, shipowners, and flag state authorities to secure the safe return and immediate evacuation of 13 Indian seafarers trapped aboard the cargo vessel MV AMIR1 at Ukraine's Chornomorsk port.
Stuck in an active combat zone amid ongoing missile and drone attacks near the Black Sea, the 15-member crew is living under the constant threat of a direct hit, a situation the FSUI has described as "terrible and life-threatening."
The union highlighted the worsening risks in the region by pointing to other recent incidents, including an unidentified missile strike on the ship Disha near the Strait of Hormuz and a recent attack on the MV AGN RAGNAR at Odesa port, which left two Indian crew members rescued and two others missing.
