An Indian energy company, Pune Gas, has urged the government to introduce India’s first LPG Efficiency Policy Framework amid rising global energy prices and supply uncertainties linked to the Iran conflict. The proposal aims to improve LPG consumption efficiency through awareness campaigns, standardized practices, policy incentives, and wider use of 47.5-kg LOT cylinders to reduce wastage, enhance safety, and curb pilferage.
Pune Gas noted that commercial LPG cylinder prices have surged from around ₹1,884 to nearly ₹3,100, increasing costs for restaurants, hotels, hospitals, MSMEs, and manufacturers. Pune Gas has also proposed collaborating with the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas and Oil Marketing Companies by providing field data, practical insights, and case studies. It has further expressed its willingness to assist in pilot projects designed to build a more efficient and sustainable LPG ecosystem in India.
