On Thursday, July 23, 2026, the U.S. Department of Justice rescinded court orders directing New York Times journalists to turn over information regarding their reporting on security issues with a Qatari-gifted aircraft for President Donald Trump.

Claiming its actions were strictly driven by national security concerns, the government issued subpoenas on July 10—only two days after reporters released the first of two reports on safety issues that prompted the U.S. Secret Service to block President Trump from returning from Turkey on the new Air Force One jet.
