Vice President C. P. Radhakrishnan laid the foundation stones for five major infrastructure projects worth over ₹1,010 crore across Meghalaya during a public ceremony held at the Soso Tham Auditorium in Shillong. Highlighting that the advancement of the Northeast is vital to national growth, Radhakrishnan stressed that individual state development is essential to realizing the "Viksit Bharat 2047" vision.
The flagship initiative among the new schemes is the New Shillong Water Supply Scheme (Phase II, Part A), estimated at ₹850.58 crore, designed to provide safe drinking water to New Shillong City and surrounding rural areas.
Other key projects launched include a ₹21.86-crore bridge over the Umngot River, the ₹56.01-crore Umsen–Barapathar all-weather road, a ₹10-crore 30-bedded AYUSH facility at Shillong Civil Hospital, and a ₹72.50-crore power substation at Mawkhanu under PM-DevINE. Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma and senior officials attended the event, highlighting the state's ongoing efforts to enhance connectivity, public health, and power capacity.
