Authorities suspended the annual Amarnath Yatra pilgrimage from the Bhagwati Nagar base camp in Jammu on August 5, 2026, halting fresh convoys to the Pahalgam and Baltal base camps and restricting security convoys along the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway as a precautionary measure.

The suspension coincided with heightened security on the seventh anniversary of the abrogation of Article 370, which political parties like the National Conference, Congress, and PDP observed as a "Black Day" with planned protests demanding the restoration of Jammu and Kashmir's special status and full statehood.

Despite the temporary disruption, over 4.60 lakh pilgrims have visited the 3,880-meter high cave shrine since the yatra began on July 3, with operations expected to run through August 28.
