Social activist Anna Hazare observed a two-hour maun andolan (silent protest) at the Mahatma Gandhi statue in Ahilyanagar, Maharashtra, to extend his support to students protesting in Delhi.
Expressing deep pain over reports of violence and police action against the demonstrators, Hazare wrote a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi urging the government to treat the agitation as a reflection of societal expectations rather than a mere law-and-order concern.
He called for positive dialogue, patient listening, and an atmosphere of trust, adding that asking Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan to resign would enhance government accountability without compromising its stability.
